The Braunschweig' Society of Sciences is a public institution of State of Lower Saxony and aims at the promotion of science and innovation in an interdisciplinary environment of Natural, Engineering and Social Sciences and Humanities in cooperation with further national and international Academies of Sciences. BWG has a similar status as the eleven existing German Academies of Sciences. The 145 regular members are mainly located in the region of the three Universities of Technologies: Braunschweig, Clausthal and Hanover. Hence, emphasis is given in engineering sciences between the natural and social sciences. BWG organizes regular meetings, workshops and symposia. The results are published in an own book series. BWG awards each year the Carl-Frederic-Gauss Medal to outstanding scientists from Germany and abroad.
