Institute of Ecological Chemistry and Waste Analysis
The Institute of Ecological Chemistry and Waste Analysis deals with the entire field of environmental chemistry with a focus on the analyses of environmental and waste samples in order to elucidate the relevant chemical mechanisms of the fate and behavior as well as the effects of environmental chemicals in different compartments including the technosphere. These investigations are focused in two main fields of research: "Active Agents and Effects" dealing with chemicals with intended biological effects like pesticides, biocides and drug residues. By applying ecotoxicological test batteries the effects of chemicals on organisms at different trophy levels are tested. "Materials and Processes" in the technosphere and their interferences with the environment are the second focus field. The use of sustainable and re-growing materials in production processes like use of bio-based raw, auxiliary, and operational materials, cooling lubricants, bio-diesel, etc. are within increasingly important research activities.
